C’è qualcosa di magico nel ritrovare vecchi amici tra la folla colorata del Carnevale di Venezia. È un appuntamento che aspetto ogni anno con impazienza, non solo per l’atmosfera unica della Laguna, ma perché so che davanti al mio obiettivo torneranno loro: Gabriele Annovi e Emy Sabbatini.
Fotografarli è ogni volta un’esperienza nuova, eppure familiare. Quest’anno hanno superato se stessi con costumi che sembrano usciti direttamente da una fiaba ghiacciata o da un sogno imperiale.
L’eleganza nei dettagli
Nelle foto potete ammirare la cura maniacale che mettono in ogni elemento:
- Emy, con il suo abito turchese a balze di tulle che sembra fatto di nuvole e mare, coronata da una tiara di cristallo che riflette la luce della laguna.
- Gabriele, in un bianco impeccabile da ufficiale delle fiabe, arricchito da mostrine e decorazioni che brillano sotto il sole veneziano, capace di passare da un saluto marziale a un sorriso d’intesa in un istante.
Oltre il costume
Quello che cerco di catturare nei miei scatti non è solo la bellezza dei loro abiti — frutto di un lavoro immenso — ma la loro complicità. Dopo anni che li seguo, c’è un linguaggio silenzioso tra fotografo e soggetto: un cenno, uno sguardo, e la posa diventa perfetta.
Le storiche mura del Palazzo Ducale, con i suoi mattoni caldi e le iconiche inferriate antiche, fanno da cornice perfetta a questa scena. Sono Emy e Gabriele a dare vita alla storia, trasformando un semplice scatto fotografico in un frammento di pura arte performativa nel cuore del potere della Serenissima.

Enchantment Reimagined: Gabriele and Emy Among the Streets of Venice
There is something truly magical about reuniting with old friends amidst the colorful crowds of the Venice Carnival. It is an appointment I look forward to every year, not just for the unique atmosphere of the Lagoon, but because I know that Gabriele Annovi and Emy Sabbatini will once again be before my lens.
Photographing them is always a fresh yet familiar experience. This year, they have truly outdone themselves with costumes that seem to have stepped right out of an icy fairy tale or an imperial dream.
Elegance in the Details
In these photos, you can admire the meticulous care they put into every single element:
- Emy, in her turquoise gown with tulle ruffles that look as if they were woven from clouds and sea, crowned by a crystal tiara that reflects the shimmering light of the lagoon.
- Gabriele, in an impeccable “fairy-tale officer” white uniform, adorned with insignia and decorations that glisten under the Venetian sun, shifting effortlessly from a formal salute to a knowing smile in an instant.
Beyond the Costume
What I strive to capture in my shots is not just the beauty of their attire—the result of immense labor—but their connection. After years of following them, a silent language has developed between photographer and subject: a nod, a glance, and the pose becomes perfect.
The historic walls of the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), with their warm bricks and iconic ancient ironwork, provide the perfect frame for this scene. It is Emy and Gabriele who breathe life into the story, transforming a simple photograph into a fragment of pure performance art in the heart of the Serenissima’s historic power.
